In late 2005, the Chowaniec Family (Joe and Rami) and the Environmental Services Association of Alberta (ESAA), through Muscular Dystrophy Canada created the ILSA MAE RESEARCH FUND.

This fund has the specific goal of supporting SMA research in Canada. Money raised for Muscular Dystrophy Canada at ESAA Events are donated directly to this fund.  In addition, any funds that are raised directly by Joe and Rami are donated to the fund.

Since the inception of the fund, over $400,000 has been raised and matching funds found to support SMA Research.

Currently, the Fund is a major donor to the research underway at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.  The research is being led by Dr. Alex MacKenzie.  For more information visit the Research Updates section.
